For Mexico, the day comes before the month, everything is lowercase and the article "de" is used. In Japan, the day of the week is not displayed and the translations for "year", "month" and "day" act like numeric separators. In the US, the full weekday name is followed by the month name and day number, then the year.

The basic format is el [day of the week] [day] de [month] de [year]. So then Sunday, September 7, 2014, would be el domingo 7 de septiembre de 2014 in Spanish. There is also a slight variation where the de before the year can also be del. In that case it would just be el domingo 7 de septiembre del 2014.

The day of the month is always provided as a cardinal number (one, two, three), rather than an ordinal number like in English (first, second, third). The one exception is that in many parts of Latin America it's also common to refer to the first day of the month as el primer día, while elsewhere el uno is the norm.

The international standard recommends writing the date as year, then month, then the day: YYYY-MM-DD.

Writing the Date in Full

In formal writing, always write the date in full when it is part of a sentence. This usually involves giving the day of the month, the month, and the year: The meeting will take place on April 21, 2019. Note that the year follows after a comma.
